Great news! My abstract landscape Segària from my Dénia series (oil on canvas, 120x90cm), has been selected for the Contemporary Landscapes open call at the 508 Gallery (508 King's Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LD, close to Imperial Wharf and Fulham Broadway stations, please find a useful map here). The exhibition will be open 25 June-9 July, opening times Tue-Sat 10am-6pm.
The Private View will take place on 25 June 6-8pm and is open to everyone but if you are planning to attend please RSVP to email@example.com.
Very soon after I started working on the Dénia series in 2016 I started mixing impasto medium and marble dust with the oil paint to achieve extremely rough and heavy textures that became part of the vocabulary of the series. It’s been one of the big frustrations of working on the series that these textures (as well as the scale of these large paintings) do not necessarily translate well into photographs which is how work is mainly communicated to potential audiences nowadays. Therefore, it is incredibly exciting to have the chance to show one of these pieces ‘in person’.
I am also actively applying for opportunities to exhibit the series as a whole (which would be a first). I firmly believe that these paintings make much more sense as a whole than as separate pieces, but of course applications for a substantial exhibition of this kind typically take a year or more to be processed so it will probably be a case of persistence and keeping my fingers crossed for a very long time.
Besides the large, 120x90 cm pieces the series includes a number of smaller works (about 30x25 cm) which started life as either studies or byproducts of the bigger paintings. It would be great to be able to show both strands of work together. Maybe one day.
Hope to see you at the show!
UPDATE: Due to positive feedback received by the gallery, the exhibition has now been extended until Saturday 13 July.
